Level Field Lacrosse is a lacrosse program focused on nurturing and mentoring "at-risk" children in low-income innercity communities. This is accomplished by "leveling the playing field" to allow all young children regardless of background or financial capabilities to play the great game of lacrosse.
The organization was started in the summer of 2018 by Chad and Kirsten Petterson. Their first two lacrosse camps (one for boys and one for girls) were held for children from the projects of East Nashville, TN in conjunction with the Martha O'Bryan Center. (Please see photos by clicking on the "Photos" tab above.)
Kirsten is a former high school All-American lacrosse player from New York who played college lacrosse (and squash) at Franklin & Marshall College. Kirsten has coached youth lacrosse for over 8 years in Brentwood as well as Wilton, CT. She currently leads the Brentwood girls development program (up through 5th grade), a program she started upon her arrival in Brentwood in early 2016. She also coaches development level girls for the Nashville Youth Lacrosse League.
Chad would have loved to play lacrosse growing up but didn't because it wasn't offered in his hometown of Flint, MI. In its absence he played the traditional sports of football, basketball and track --- all three of which he captained in high school --- which led to him being named the Top Male Scholar-Athlete in the State of Michigan. He then went on to the University of Michigan where he was a 1st Team Academic All-Big Ten wide receiver, Rose Bowl Champion and Merrill Lynch-Heisman Award winner, an award that recognizes the University's #1 Scholar-Athlete. Chad has coached youth lacrosse for over 6 years for numerous teams in both Brentwood and Wilton. He is also the head of the "Receiving Jesus Football Camps" ministry which similarly serves children in impoverished innercity locations.
The next goal for the program is to start a team for these children, as they otherwise may never have a chance to play the game. (In fact, most of the children we coached last summer had never even heard of the game!)
